"Madaam," Jax says in a phony accent, offering Skye his arm once again as he helps her out of the car. Skye smiles softly, not saying a word, just taking his arm. Getting out of the car, she whirls her head around as she tries to determine where they are. The place is completely unfamiliar, however, and she turns to Jax, a questioning look in her eyes.
"Care to tell me where we are yet?" she asks. Dropping her arm and clasping her hand tightly in his, he leads her down a small path.
"This is just something I wanted to show you before we go out," he says quietly. She nods and smiles, enjoying the feel of her hand in his. Although she hates to admit it, even to herself, it makes her feel safe and secure. The feeling of security still scares her, though, as she doesnt know if its real. "Close your eyes," Jax commands as they near the end of the path. Skye obliges and allows Jax to lead her the rest of the way. When they stop walking she opens her eyes and lets out a small gasp of awe.
"Oh my gosh," she whispers, simply staring. "Jax, this has to be one of the most gorgeous scenes I have ever seen in my entire life." They are in front of the river and the soft blue-grey water softly swishes by. However, what makes it so breathtakingly beautiful is the sunset. By this point, the sun is almost at the horizon and the entire sky is a mix of blue, pink, and deep orange. The water seems to reflect the sky at the farthest end, where it takes on a pinkish glow.
"This place is almost magical for me Skye," he says. "After Brenda died I came here a lot, just to think. I cant really explain it, and it probably wont make sense, but it was almost like the water had a healing power for me. It made me feel as though I wasnt alone."
"It does make sense Jax, it makes a lot of sense," Skye says softly, her thoughts flashing back to the days of Altheas abuse. "When I lived with Althea, I had a place like that too. It wasnt nearly as symbolic or beautiful, but it was my own little place just the same." Skyes eyes cloud over as she remembers all the times she had run from the house, fleeing Althea, and down to the abandoned cabin in the woods. It had become her cabin. She had decorated it with thins she had found in the woods and used to sneak away with her dolls to have tea parties there. It was the one place she had felt safe from Althea, the one place where she felt as though she could never be harmed. It given her a sense of reassurance, of power, of control over her own life. Tears spring to her eyes as she remembers the day Althea had followed her and found out about the cabin. The image of the little cabin going up in flames as Althea had thrown a burning match into it comes rushing back into her mind.
"Skye, what is it? Whats the matter?" Jax asks, worry filling his eyes. Skye shakes her head, angry at herself for crying in front of him yet again.
"Nothing," she says, blinking quickly. Jax knows she is lying, but also knows not to push her. He just nods and pulls her into a hug. She squeezes him back tightly, almost as if she is falling and needs someone to hold on to, someone to pull her up. When they finally pull away, Skye smiles up at him.
"Enough of this emotional stuff," he says. "Lets go have some fun!" Skye smiles in spite of herself.
"Sounds good to me," she says. "Where are you taking me?"
"I have a couple ideas," he says, smiling. "First, I thought wed go dancing at Carlys club." Skye opens her mouth to protest against this, but Jax shushes her, putting his thumb to her lips. "I promise, youll have fun," he assures her. "Dont you trust me?" That single question is enough to make Skyes heart melt.
"Yes," she says in a barely audible voice. "Its been so long since I trusted anyone. This is still new to me." Jax nods, feeling terrible that her life was so hard. He takes her hand and leads her back to the car. When they arrive at Carlys club, he takes her hand once again, leading her inside.
"Hey, Jax," Carly says, greeting him as they walk in. Her eyes harden as she sees Skye, but she doesnt say anything. By this point, she has seen quite clearly that Jax had true feelings for Skye, and, as his friend, she wanted him to be happy.
"Hi Carly," Jax says, giving her a smile that says thank you. "The club is packed tonight!"
"It sure is," Carly agrees happily. "Enjoy yourslves," she adds, before hurrying away to check on some customers.
"Lets dance," Jax says, pulling Skye over to the dance floor.
"Im not much of a dancer," she admits, laughing.
"Thats ok, neither am I," he shoots back. After the song ends, Jax leads Skye over to a small table. "Are you having fun?" he asks.
"Definitely," she responds, being completely honest. "Im going to run to the ladies room for a minute though. Promise youll be here when I get back?"
"Theres nowhere else Id rather be," he assures her and the look in his eyes tells her that he means it. She gives him a quick kiss on the cheek before hurrying away. Pushing open the door to the bathroom, Skye is surprised to find Alexis there. She smiles tightly at her.
"Hello, Skye," Alexis says, trying to be polite. "Are you here with Jax?" Skye nods.
"Im kind of surprised to see you here," she admits. "This doesnt exactly seem like the type of place you would go to." Alexis smiles wryly.
"It isnt," she says. "Kristina dragged me here." Skye laughs. She didnt know Kristina all too well, but Jax had nothing but good things to say about her.
"You dont look like your having too much fun," Skye observes.
"Am I that obvious?" Alexis asks, laughing. "This just really isnt my type of place."
"I can tell," Skye says. "And just for the record, Alexis, I know you think Im manipulating Jax, but Im not. For the first time in my life, Ive found someone that cares about me and someone who I care deeply about. I would never hurt Jax." Skye isnt quite sure why she is telling this to Alexis, but she just feels as though she wants to. Alexis nods slowly, coming to an understanding about Skye.
"I know you had a hard life, Skye. So did I. In fact, we probably have more in common than we think. If you ever feel like you need someone to talk to, other than Jax, Id be happy to listen." Skye smiles, touched at Alexiss words.
"Thank you, Alexis, I really mean that," she says. "The same goes for you. I know you dont like me very much, but Im really not the monster you think I am."
"Im beginning to see that," Alexis says, smiling. "Im also beginning to see that you are perfect for Jax. And now, if you excuse me, Im going to try to make a run for it before Kristina comes searching for me. Ill talk to you later."
"Ok, try to have fun," Skye says, smiling. When Skye returns to the table, she sees Jax patiently waiting for her.
"What took so long?" he asks. "Was there a line or something?" Skye laughs.
"Actually, I was talking to Alexis," she says. "Shes really nice, you were right about her." Jax smiles, unable to keep himself from kissing Skye.
"Come on, lets dance," he says, pulling her up. After awhile, both are exhausted. "Ready to go home now?" Jax asks, eyes sparkling. Skye laughs.
"Sure am," she says, grabbing her shawl. As they exit the club, each is deep in thought about the other. So deep in thought, however, that neither sees the truck racing toward them, out of control.
