Jax eyes Skye, narrowing his eyes. "Well, you were just in a bad accident, Miss Chandler-Quartermaine. We cant have you over-exerting yourself, now can we?" He grins playfully. Raising an eyebrow, Skye grins back at him.
"I have a mild concussion and a sprained ankle, Jax, its not THAT bad," she says.
"Since when isnt a concussion bad?" Jax counters. Skye opens her mouth and then snaps it shut again, admitting to herself that Jax is right.
"Whatever," she says lightly, waving her hand through the air. "You still havent answered my question. What do you have in mind?" His eyes sparkle under the bright lighting in the bedroom.
"Ever play sports?" he asks nonchalantly. Skyes eyes widen and her mouth parts slightly.
"I though you didnt want me to over-exert myself?" she asks. Getting up from the bed, Jax walks towards the door to the living room.
"Dont worry, you wont," he says. "Ill be right back." With that, he hurries out of the room. Skye supresses a slight laugh as she rests her head against the pillows. Gazing around the room, a feeling of warmth radiates through her, a feeling she has never felt before. She cant really explain the feeling, not even to herself, but its a feeling she never wants to go away. Suddenly, she stops and realizes what the thoughts running through her mind may mean. Stop it, Skye, she commands herself. Dont even let that thought cross your mind again. But even as she is commanding herself, she knows its no use. Whether shes ready to admit it or not, she is falling in love with Jax. Skye is interrupted from her thoughts when Jax walks back into the room.
"Oh, you have to be kidding me," she says, amused, as she looks up at him.
"Not in the least," he says lightly. "Unless you think itll make you feel worse," he adds, his voice taking on a serious tone. Skye pauses a moment, pretending to consider.
"I think I can handle it," she says, trying to hide her smile.
"I mean it, Skye," he says. "If you think this is going to make you feel worse, forget about it. I dont want to do anything to hurt you." Skyes heart melts, but she refuses to let it show. She isnt quite ready to be that open about her feelings just yet.
"Ill be fine," she says lightly, smiling up at Jax from her sitting position in his bed.
"Ok," he says, smiling back, noting how gorgeous she looks, even though he can tell she is exhausted. "But promise me youll let me know if you get tired or start not to feel well again."
"Whatever you say, doctor," Skye teases, trying to hide the fact that she is so touched by his concern for her. "By the way, what exactly IS the purpose of this little game?"
"You need to have some fun," he tells her. "Havent you ever heard that laughter is the best medicine?" Smirking at him, Skye opens her mouth to speak.
"I thought chocolate ice cream was?" she questions innocently. Jaxs smooth laugh fills the room as he looks down at Skye. For what must be the one hundreth time that day, he cant help but think how right it feels to have her with him. Momentarily pushing the thought from his mind, Jax puts down what he is carrying and tosses Skye the lightweight basketball in his hands. She catches it easily despite the fact that she is sitting down.
"You may have beat me at war, but I bet I can beat you at this. Best out of ten" Jax challenges Skye. A spark lights up her eyes as she tilts her head and peers up at him.
"Five bucks says you cant," she challenges back.
"Youve got a deal," Jax shoots back, reaching out his hand to shake hers. She laughs as she shakes his hand, but suddenly stops. The touch of his hand in hers sends chills darting through her body. She shakes it off, refusing, at least for the moment, to let her fright take over. She promises herself to act with her heart without her head interfering for once. Jax moves out of the way as Skye sits up fully in bed, staring at the miniature basketball net by the door. She aims carefully and sends the ball flying in a perfect arc through the air. As it drops neatly into the net, she smiles at Jax. He just smirks back at her, bending down to pick up the basketball and toss it back to her. Skye giggles as she continues to shoot the ball. She ends up making eight out of the ten baskets.
"Your turn," she says. "But you have to sit in the same spot so its fair." He laughs at her seriousness, but nods his head. Skye slides over to the other side of the bed as Jax sits down. He shoots, but misses. Skyes delighted laughter fills the room. She starts to get out of bed to retrieve the basjktball, but Jax lays a hand on her arm.
"Dont even think about getting up," he says and gets up to get the basketball himself. Skye watches with an amused smile as Jax concentrates on making each basket. As she sits and watches, she can almost feel the anxiety seeping out of her. She almost has to pinch herself to make sure everything is real. The sound of the basketball hitting the floor snaps her out of her daydreams.
"That would be another miss," she says cheerfully. "You only have two more chances and you have to make both of the to beat me." Jax just shakes his head and grins.
"You really are something else," he says.
"You are too," she says, promising herself to at least momentarily forget about the past and concentrate on the present. "Go on," she says to him. "Shoot the basketball." He grins at her.
"Whatever you say," he teases and is pleased to hear her laughter fill the room. Jax makes the next shot. Skye raises her eyebrows as he sits back down on the bed.
"Dont get nervous or anything," she says. "After all, this is it. If you make it, you win, if not its a tie." Jax aims and shoots, but the ball bounces off the rim and onto the floor.
"Well, THAT didnt prove anything," he says jokingly.
"Rematch?" Skye asks. Jaxs eyes gleam as he looks at the woman next to him.
"You bet," he challenges. They both laugh as Jax gets up from the bed and Skye slides over. For the time, past and future are temporarily forgotten; only the present matters.
