Skye opens her eyes just a tad as Jax walks back into the bedroom. She smiles slightly as he sits back down on the bed. "Who was on the phone?" she asks.
"Nobody important, "Jax answers, smiling down at her. Skye stifles a yawn as she looks up at him. She is suddenly overcome with tiredness.
"Ok," she says, still in a daze from what had just happened. Jax reaches forward and tucks the blanket around her. As Skyes eyes slowly close, Jax just stares at her. He cant help but think she looks like a porcelain doll, so delicate and gentle. The thought makes him laugh, because he knows Skye can be the complete opposite. But, he realizes, she can also be an angel. Jax just sits and watches Skye as she rests peacefully. When she opens her eyes again, it is 9:00. "Jax?" she questions.
"What?" he responds quickly.
"Earlier tonight, did what I think happened actually happen? Or did I just dream it?" she asks, not quite believing it was real. Jax laughs softly and sits on the edge of the bed next to her.
"It wasnt a dream, Skye," he says, laying down next to her. "But youre a dream come true." Skye takes a sharp breath as she turns to face Jax.
"Are you for real?" she asks disbelievingly. "How can you possibly be real? Youre just so perfect. You seem so sure about everything."
"No, Im not," he argues lightly. "Im just as scared as you are, but Im willing to take a leap of faith. We cant let fear run our lives, Skye, or well both end up miserable. I think deep down you know that." Skye is silent for a moment, deep in thought over Jaxs words.
"Youre right," she says softly, as visions of her past come leaping through her head. Jax winces as he sees the pain in her eyes. Why had he brought that up? He should have realized it would have made he remeber her past. Sitting up and leaning on his elbow, Jax simply looks at Skye, still shocked at how normal it feels to haver her lying in his bed.
"Are you feeling any better?" he asks. She nods slightly.
"A little," she says. "I just feel so tired, almost like Im in a daze. I guess thats from the concussion."
"Well, Im not a doctor, but I do have an idea about how to make you feel better," Jax says, standing up. "Ill be right back." As he leaves, Skye cant help but smile. Who would have thought she would end up here, in Jaxs apartment, after she had been kicked out? Her smile quickly fades however, as she thinks of the battle she had had with Alan the day before. She hadnt meant to hurt him and she just couldnt forgive herself. You should have been a better daughter, she tells herself. A single tear runs down her cheek as she thinks about how things could have been different. Stop this, she commands herself, angrily swiping at her cheek. As Jax walks in, all her sadness melts away. She is amazed that a single person can have that profound an effect on her. She is a bit scared by that realization, but scared in a good way, scared that she finally has someone who cares for her.
"Whatca got?" she asks lightly. Jax smiles.
"My own medicine," he jokes. "Chocolate ice cream sundaes."
"Ooh, that sounds delicious," Skye says eagerly, sitting up against the headboard. Jax hands her a bowl and sits down across from her on the bed. He cant help but smile as Skye eagerly takes a spoonful.
"Like it?" he asks her. Her mouth full, Skye can only nod. Jax grins at her, noticing the liquid chocolate forming a film over her lips. He takes a spoonful himself. "Somehow I just kinda figured you were a chocolate lover," he says. Skye laughs lightly.
"Good guess," she says, taking another spoonful. "Its definitely the best medicine Ive had all day!" As they sit and eat, Skye cant believe how comfortable and at home she feels in Jaxs apartment. Little does she know, Jax is thinking the same thing. Its almost like its a puzzle and shes the missing piece, he thinks. The thought scares him beyond belief. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Jax looks over at Skye, who is just finishing the ice cream.
"Feel any better?" he asks.
"More than you could possibly know," she says softly, forcing herself to look up into his eyes. The compassion that she sees there is almost enough to make her cry all over again. Compassion wasnt exactly something she was accustomed to in her life. In fact, it was something she had learned to push away. But it was time to stop that, or at least try to stop that. She knew, just looking into Jaxs eyes, that if anyone could make her stop that it was him. Jax smiles at the thoughtful expression on her face, but doesnt say a word, letting her be. Finally, she smiles up at him. "Thank you," she says. "This past day has just been surreal."
"Im so glad youre here with me," Jax says softly, running his thumb along her palm.
"Theres nowhere else Id rather be," Skye says. Jax smiles.
"Youve been through enough," he says. "Lets have some fun."
"Oh really?" Skye says slyly. "Just what do you have in mind?"
