As the balloon finally descends later that night, Skye and Jax are delirious with happiness. Skye still cannot get over how special Jax is, how much he truly cares. As the balloon lands and the operator steps out, Skye begins to stand. Jax puts his hand on her arm, pulling her back down next to him. She looks at him, surprised. He pulls her lower into the basket, tightly wrapping his arms around her, holding her as close as he can.
"I dont want the night to be over," he whispers in her ear. She smiles slowly, heart racing.
"Me either," she says. "I cant tell you how special it was to me." He smiles. "Or," she adds, "how special you are to me." Gently pushing aside her sweater, Jax rests his chin gently on her shoulder. She turns slightly to smile up at him, brushing her lips against his. He kisses her back lightly at first, then stronger and deeper. When they finally pull away, Skye glances at her watch. "Guess its time to go," she says. They reluctantly get up and climb out of the balloon. As they slide into the limo, Skye shudders from it all. The true force of how Jax has changed her life hits her for the first time and she cant help but be overwhelmed. The ride back to the hotel is a short one.
"Thanks Tom," Jax says to his friend. "I owe you."
"No you dont," Tom says. "It was worth it to see you two together. Youre perfect for each other." Jax nods his agreement as he glances in Skyes direction. Skye gives Tom a quick hug to say thank you and the two wave as the limo pulls away. Taking Skyes hand in his, Jax leads her back into the hotel and to the elevator. He chuckles as it takes them up to their floor.
"Remember when you stopped the elevator so Id listen to you?" he asks. Skye smirks.
"Sure do," she said. Her eyes gleam. "Should I do it again?" He laughs at her playfulness. The doors open and they step out into the hallway. Jax follows behind Skye as they walk to the room. She unlocks the door and they walk in. Tossing her purse and sweater on the chair, Skye stifles a yawn.
"Sleepy?" Jax asks.
"A little," she admits. "That board meeting took forever." He smiles sympathetically.
"You wanted to be CEO," he says.
"And I still do," she assures him. "Its just a shame the CEO cant work one-on-one with her major stockholder all day." He laughs as her pours two cups of coffee. She joins him at the small table, blinking rapidly to keep herself awake. Glancing at the clock, she sees it is 1:30. They drink the coffee slowly, absorbed in thought. When they finish and finally head off to bed, each has a satisfied feeling. Can life get any better Skye thinks.
"Yes, it can," Jax answers. Skye whirls around to face him, startled.
"Did I say that out loud?" she asks. He nods, laughing. Skye giggles, then wonders what he meant.
