Skye and Jax awaken the next morning to the sound of seagulls. Skye rolls over sleepily and blinks her eyes. The two had fallen asleep on the sofa in each others arms. She glances towards Jax, who is awake and staring at her.
"What?" she asks.
"Nothing," he says. "Youre just so beautiful." He pulls her up from the sofa. She looks at him quizically. "We have a full day ahead of us," he says. She smiles, no longer feeling the need to question him. She trusts him completely. Skye heads into the bedroom to get dressed, choosing one of the several outfits she had bought the previous day in the shops. Putting on the black ankle-length pants and perwinkle sleeveless shirt, she feels the smile slowly spreading over her face. Slipping on her black sandals and brushing her hair, she cant help but feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
When she leaves the bedroom, Jax is already waiting for her by the door, dressed in khaki pants and a blue shirt. She loves how the blue brings out his eyes. She slips her hand into his as they walk out the door and up to the boardwalk. The two walk to a Bansons, a small becahfront restaurant. Seated outdoors, Skye takes a deep breath of ocean air and smiles.
"This has been an amazing weekend," she tells Jax. Then she chuckles. "Wonder what my dear family thinks." He laughs too.
"Wonder what they will think when we get back and they find out the truth."
"I dont CARE what they think, " Skye says forcefully. "Youre all I need." He nods in agreement, not even having to tell her he feels the same way. She just knows. After breakfast, the two take a long walk on the boardwalk, stopping briefly to just stare out at the ocean. Then they decide to go to the small amusement pier.
Skye giggles as Jax tries desperately to win her a stuffed animal. He finally gives up and just buys it for her. They spend the early afternoon at the pier, trying out various rides. Skyes favorite is the tilt-a-whirl: it goes so quickly that she is forced to hold onto Jax.
"Ready for lunch?" Jax asks her later.
"Sure," she agrees. They buy food on the boardwalk and carry it down onto the beach to eat. As the waves tumble in front of them, the two eat and talk. "I cant believe we have to go home tonight," Skye says.
"Me either," Jax agrees. "But truthfully, as long as we are together, it doesnt matter WHERE we are." She nods in agreement, opening his arms and putting them around her. They spend the rest of the afternoon on the beach, discussing their plans for when they arrive home.
