Skyes screams echo into the quiet night. She has been walking for well over an hour and shes so tired she can barely move. Burying her face in her hands, she lets her tears come. Her hands damp from her tears, she picks up her head and glances at her watch. Its 10:00 now and the highway that had been so busy only an hour before is now almost completely deserted. Muttering under her breath, Skye continues walking. Shes so hopelessly lost that she knows it is pointless to attempt to make it back to her car. A feeling of intense fear overtakes her body as she feels more alone than ever.

Meanwhile, Jax has had a very bad evening of his own. He had come upon some complications in several of his business dealings which had lost him quite a bit of money. But something else was bothering him to. For some reason, he just had an overall sense of dread, like something terrible was happening and it was all his fault. What bothered him the most was that he had no idea where this feeling was coming from and he couldnt shake it no matter what he did. He had tried watching television, reading a book, and playing cards. He had even tried to call Alexis, who wasnt home. His discovery that she was down at the police station with Sonny only served to further annoy him.
"This is ridiculous," he grumbles, tossing his book onto the sofa. Grabbing his car keys from the table by the door, he hurries out, convinced that a trip to his favorite little restaurant will help him feel better. The cold air shocks his cheeks as he pushes open the door to the hotel. Wrapping his bright blue scarf around his neck, he quickly walks to the car. He slides in and quickly pulls out of the parking lot. Turning the heat up as high as it can go, Jax carefully turns onto Interstate 57, the major highway in Port Charles. As he drives along, his feeling intensifies. He tries to clear his head, telling himself everything is alright and hes just imagining things. But the feeling persists, deepening with every extra mile that Jax drives. His heart beats faster as he becomes overcome and surrounded by the feelings of doom and helplessness. Pulling over to the shoulder of the road, he quickly shuts the engine of his car.
"Ok, think," he coaches himself out loud. "Is there anyone you know of who could be in trouble?" He goes through a list of everyone he knows, briefly stopping to think when he comes to Alexis. He knows she is with Sonny, and he hates it, but he knows thats not whats giving him the strange feeling. He continues on down his list, a sense of panic growing inside him. "Lets see," he thinks "theres Angel, Kristina, Skye, Courtney." Suddenly he stops and goes back over his list. As he repeatedly runs Skyes name over in his head, his heartbeat quickens. He shakes his head, putting the thought out of his mind. After all, he had just seen Skye that morning at an ELQ meeting and she was fine. Happy, even. So why would she be in such trouble now? He continued down his list, but his thoughts keep returning to Skye. It was almost as if someone was reminding him about her, not letting him forget that she was a human capable of needing help, even though she didnt let it show. He loosens his scarf from his neck, deep in thought. Thinking back to that morning, he clearly remembered Skye telling him everything was going well. She had seemed happy, excited about being the new CEO. Running their conversations over in his mind, he suddenly stopped in mid-thought and replayed something she had said. "For the first time, everything seems to be working out just the way I want it." He had almost questioned that at the time, as he assumed Skye often got what she wanted. But now he couldnt help but wonder what she meant by that. Reaching for his cell phone, he quickly punches in the number to the Quartermaine mansion.
"Quartermaine residence," Reginald answers.
"Hello, Reginald, its Jasper Jacks," he says politely. "How is everything tonight?"
"Well, its been better," Reginald admits. "Edward had a heart attack this morning and then Alan and Skye had a huge fight over it. Alan told her she had to leave and she stormed out of the house several hours ago." Now Jaxs sense of fear deepens even further and he just KNOWS that Skye is the one in trouble.
"Do you know where she went?" he asks quickly.
"No," Reginald answers. "But I can tell you that she was very upset." Jax sighs, worry creeping over him.
"If you hear from her, please call me," he says, leaving his phone number. Quickly disconnecting Reginald, Jax calls Skyes cell phone.
"Were sorry. The number you are calling is not available at this time. Stay on the line to leave a message." Jaxs heart pounds. Skye ALWAYS has her cell phone on.
"Skye, hi, its Jax," he says after the tone. "Look, I just heard what happened with Edward and I really need to talk to you. Im getting worried about you. Please call me back." Tossing his phone onto the seat next to him, Jax starts the car again, heading for the highway. Hes really not sure why, but something is telling him to keep driving. Glancing at the clock, he notices its 11:00. His heart beats faster; he has to find out where Skye is, he just has to. Switching on his bright lights, Jax drives as slowly as he can down the highway without being hit from behind. After half an hour, he sighs. "This is hopeless," he mutters. "And anyway, why on earth would Skye be walking around by herself in the middle of the night? She has a car." Hes just about to turn off onto a side road to turn around when he notices someone lying on the ground near the shoulder of the road. As he slows down and stops the car, he gasps sharply, recognizing Skyes coat and long red hair. Fumbling with the lock on the door, Jax leaps out of the car and runs to her.
"Skye?" he says out loud. "Skye, its Jax. Are you ok?" When he doesnt get a response, his heart fills with fear and dread. He quickly pushes her red hair out of the way and feels her neck for a pulse. "Oh thank heaven," he whispers as he feels one. Skyes skin is icy against his touch and he wonders how long she has been lying there. Gently shaking her, Jax is more scared than he remembers.
"Skye," he says softly. "Skye, wake up." When she doesnt answer or move, Jax becomes panicked. Running over to his car, he grabs his cell phone. When he receives the "no reception" message he screams. Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Jax gently reaches over and lifts Skye from the ground. Gathering her into his arms, he quickly walks back to the car and lays her across the back seat. Opening the trunk, he pulls out some fleece blankets he always carries with him. Draping them over her frozen body, Jax quickly tucks them around her. Then he hurries around to the front and leaps into the drivers seat. Quickly turning around, Jax speeds down the highway, praying that he gets her to the hospital in time. Through the whole trip, he keeps talking to her.
"Hang on, Skye. Were almost there," he keeps repeating. He knows hes driving way too fast, but at this point he doesnt care. He just HAS to get her to the hospital in time.
"But what if you dont?" a voice asks him. "Why didnt you go look for her sooner? What if she doesnt make it? How can you make it without her?" The last question surprises him; he hadnt meant to think that, it had just happened. These questions echoing in his head, a lone tear rolls down Jaxs left cheek. She cant die, she just cant. As he speeds along, he prays with all his heart that she makes it.
